The Azalea Glasshouse & Bothy Restaurant
Five star cuisine surrounded by nature and beauty
Situated within the Castle's walled gardens sits our late Victorian Mackenzie and Moncur Victorian Glasshouse, built in the late 1800s and one of only a few remaining in Scotland, including a similar Glasshouse situated on the Queen’s Balmoral Estate. With a botanical theme throughout, The Azalea Glasshouse & Bothy Restaurant is light, spacious and welcoming. It is home to peach and fig trees, grape vines and propagation rooms for a variety of plants and flowers. With nature’s truly awe-inspiring surroundings, this is without doubt a unique venue for those very special celebrations, or for formal and informal dining.
Victorian garden ingenuity
The Victorians were masters of engineering and design; with a stream running through the gardens and under the Glasshouse, beauty and functionality are combined. This elegant former plant ‘hot house’ is home to an array of beautiful 100 year old vines, fruit trees and abundant plant life, spectacularly displayed under this 50 meter long glass and hardwood structure. The Glenapp Glasshouse is the centrepiece of the Walled Garden where much homegrown produce finds its way from the garden to the plate.
The Glasshouse offers five distinct and individual compartments - The May Stock Room, The Atrium, The Vine Room, The Pond Room and The Fruit Room. Perfect for intimate dining, lunch or dinner with friends or afternoon tea surrounded by nature and distinctive local art. Whatever the season this unique, bright yet cosy restaurant offers a new experience on every visit, from summer walks around the Walled Gardens to star gazing in the winter months. The Glasshouse and Bothy are adjoining giving you the choice of garden or pond views.
For larger events, The Glasshouse & Bothy Restaurant can be yours exclusively. A unique and beautiful space, full of colour and nature with an abundance of plant life reflecting the changing seasons.
