Local venue awarded highest food accolade for quality

The impressive food being served up at a local Ayrshire business has been recognised with a special award by the region’s official tourism organisation.

Glenapp Castle, near Ballantrae, has achieved an EatScotland Gold award from VisitScotland.

Glenapp Castle currently holds a five star accommodation rating from VisitScotland and has received this latest accolade in recognition of the quality of the food and overall dining experience available at the establishment.

A delicious, six course gourmet dinner, three course lunch and afternoon tea are available daily at Glenapp Castle and many guests enjoy a walk in the 36 acres of spectacular gardens during their visit.

Fay Cowan of Glenapp Castle said:

Graham and I are truly delighted to receive this award on behalf of the kitchen team.  In the castle kitchens, we create our wonderful gourmet lunches and dinners using the very best ingredients that are available locally and throughout the season we have fruit, vegetables and herbs from the castle gardens.”

“In our 10th Anniversary year, we would be delighted to welcome both new and returning guests to stay at the castle or visit for lunch, afternoon tea or dinner. Please telephone or email to make your reservation in advance!”

Food and drink are an important part of the tourism experience in Ayrshire & Arran adding to the reputation of the area and benefitting the local economy.

Annique Armstrong, Regional Director of VisitScotland, said;

“We are delighted to award Glenapp Castle with an EatScotland Gold Award. The quality of eating and drinking experiences is extremely important in encouraging return visits to Ayrshire & Arran and, given that we boast some of the finest natural produce available, we are well placed to capitalise on the growing interest in food tourism.

“Tourism growth is critical to the future of Ayrshire & Arran and recognising and encouraging the standard of what visitors can eat and drink here brings more compelling reasons for people to visit the region.”

VisitScotland is committed to raising Scotland’s profile as a credible and emerging culinary tourism destination. The tourism organisation’s national quality assurance schemes are recognised and respected world wide and often used as a benchmark by tourism organisations in other countries.
